Introduction
The War of 1812 was, in a way, the second war for independence. It was a two-and-a-half year conflict between the British Empire and the newly formed United States. Although it was a relatively “little-known” war, it held a lot of importance. It was very important in deciding the fate of the United States and the land of North America. Even though no side really won the war, it showed that the United States was a nation independent of Great Britain and a large role on the international stage. The war had three main causes and many lasting effects. One of the lasting effects was that it boosted American pride and honor. Specifically, it was the Battle of New Orleans which had such an impact on the American morale. Also, a man named Francis Scott Key wrote, “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the war. The war was very significant to America. The War of 1812 was important because it showed that America was strong enough to stand up against Britain, defend against Britain for a second time, and was the birth period of the American national anthem.
